Host together

Who hosts an event, how to invite a co-host, and what changes when a group hosts it.

For: Hosts, Group admins

Every event has a list of hosts. The person who created it is one of them, and its hosts can invite others to join them. When a group hosts the event, the person creating it picks co-hosts from the group's creator and the people with the Super Admin role, and nobody is preselected.

Let a group host your event

1.

In the event form, under Who hosts this, pick the group instead of You.

2.

Only a group's creator or a Super Admin is offered the group. Once you pick it, choose your co-hosts from the group's creator and the people with the Super Admin role; nobody is picked by default, and you host the event either way. A Publisher posts under their own name and hosts that event alone.

3.

The choice is final: once created, an event can't be handed to a group, or back to you.

What every host can do

Hosts all have the same powers: each one can edit the event and cancel it, send announcements and delete chat messages, change the options, create invite links and Revoke them, add guests after sign-ups close, change the image, see the hidden address and exact pin, and mark who came.

How hosts appear

One host is shown by name and rating. With several, the event page and the cards stack their pictures and name them on one line, with no rating: a rating belongs to one person, and this event has several hosts. A group's event shows the group instead.

Tap that line to open Hosts: every host with their rating, a Follow button for anyone but you, and why each one is a host: Created this event, Co-host or Hosts through the group. Anyone who can see the event can see the list.

Hosts hold no spot

A host is never counted in the spots and can't take one. If you hold a spot and then become a host, your spot is released and the first person on the waitlist who fits takes it. Losing the role later doesn't give it back.

Invite someone to co-host

1.

Open an event you host, find Hosts and tap Invite a co-host.

2.

Search for someone you follow who follows you back. Nobody else can be invited, and anyone already hosting or already invited is left out.

3.

Send the invitation. They get an alert, and the invitation waits under Waiting for an answer until they answer.

A personal event has at most five hosts, and unanswered invitations count toward that. A group's event has no limit. The host who sent an invitation can withdraw it, and so can the event's creator while they still host it; invitations still unanswered when the event starts expire. On a group's event only the event's creator and the group's creator can invite, while they still host it.

Accepting an invitation

An invitation opens on its own screen, which lists what you take on so you can decide. Accepting makes you a host at once and cancels any answer you had given the event. If you had a confirmed spot, it is released and the waitlist moves up; the screen after accepting tells you which happened. If you decline, the host who invited you is told.

Leaving or removing a host

Any host except the event's creator can step down with Stop hosting: whoever created an event can't stop hosting it themselves. On an event created in someone's own name, that person can remove any other host while they still host it, and a host can remove anyone they invited; on a group's event the event's creator and the group's creator can, while they still host it, and every other host can only step down. An event always has at least one host, so the last one can't step down, and once an event is over its host list is fixed.

If you delete your account

Deleting your Party Up account does not cancel an event someone else hosts with you: every event you created that has another host passes to the host who has been on it longest, upcoming, past and cancelled alike, and its guests keep their spots. Only an event left with no host is cancelled, and everyone holding a spot there is told. Before you confirm, Delete account shows the two lists: Upcoming events another host keeps, which names who takes each one over, and Upcoming events that will be cancelled.

Reviews, blocks and getting in touch

A review counts toward every host's rating, and no host can review an event they host. Invite-only events aren't reviewed. Someone blocked by any host can't see or join the event. Guests reach a host through Event chat on the event page, open to every host and anyone confirmed for the event.

When roles change

Granting or removing Super Admin never changes who hosts an event. It adds nobody to an event and takes nobody's spot, and someone who loses the role stays a host until they are removed or step down. The role only decides who you can pick as a co-host when you create an event as the group.

Tip

Leaving a group, archiving it and reactivating it don't change any event's hosts either.
