Connect your group to Telegram

Post your group's events in a Telegram group and let members answer from there.

For: Group admins

Telegram is optional. Once a Party Up group is linked to a Telegram group, every event published in the group is posted there too, and the post updates as people join.

Before you start

You need to be the group's creator or a Super Admin in Party Up, the owner of the Telegram group, and to have that Telegram account linked in Linked accounts. Use a supergroup: people joining and leaving only sync from supergroups.

No Party Up group yet? Start from Connect a chat group in your groups instead: the bot creates it when it joins.

Link the two groups

1.

In Party Up, open Manage group, then Telegram, and tap Generate link code. The code works for 15 minutes.

2.

Tap Add the bot to a Telegram group, pick the group in Telegram and keep the administrator rights it suggests. The bot joins and links the group by itself.

3.

Back in Party Up, tap I've linked — refresh.

Tip

You can also do it by hand: add the Party Up bot to the group as an administrator, then send /link followed by the code there. Either way, only the owner of the Telegram group can link it.

Tip

Add a language after the code, like /link CODE it, and the bot writes in Italian. Later, the owner can switch with /init en, /init it or /init es.

What members see

Each event post has Join and Unsubscribe buttons, plus one button per option when the event has options. The post names who is hosting: up to three names and a count for any others, or the group's name when the group hosts the event. A button under them opens the event in Party Up; anyone who isn't signed in is asked to sign in first and then lands on the event. The answer buttons only work for people who have already signed in to Party Up and accepted the Terms. Anyone else gets a private reply with a link that, once they have signed in and accepted the Terms, opens the event so they can answer there. In groups set to Request to join or Invite-only, they also need to join the group in Party Up before their answer counts.

When the group is set to Open, people who join the Telegram group become members in Party Up too — but only if they already have a Party Up account; joining the Telegram group does not create one. Someone banned from the group is not added.

When an event is cancelled, its post says so and loses its buttons. It keeps the ❌ Cancelled heading, the category emoji, the title, the date and the time, plus the reason when the host picked one.

Get your alerts on Telegram

Anyone can get their personal Party Up alerts from the bot when push notifications aren't available on their device.

1.

Connect Telegram in Linked accounts, under Settings.

2.

Open the Party Up bot in a private chat and send /start.

Tip

If the bot is removed from the Telegram group, new events stop appearing there, but the group stays active on Party Up.

Disconnect Telegram

In Manage group › Telegram, tap Disconnect Telegram and confirm. The bot posts a goodbye and leaves the Telegram group. Members, events and roles stay in Party Up, and the group gets its own chat in the app again. To link a Telegram group later, follow the steps above with a new code.
