Discord

Connect a Discord server to your group: events post in its channels, members join with a button, and Discord can deliver your alerts.

For: Group admins, Guests

A Party Up group can connect one Discord server, and a server connects to one group. Its channels then work like Telegram topics: events post there, and members answer from Discord.

Connecting a server

No Party Up group yet? Start from Connect a chat group in your groups instead: the bot creates it when it joins.

1.

As a group admin, open Manage group, then Discord, and press Generate code.

2.

Press Add the bot to a server and add the Party Up bot to your server. It asks to view and post in channels, embed links, create and manage forum posts, connect to voice channels and create events.

3.

In the server, run the command shown from the Discord account linked to your Party Up account (you need the Manage Server permission), choosing the channel where events go by default. The code works for 15 minutes.

Tip

In Discord, /partyup status shows the connected group, the default channel and any permission the bot is missing. /partyup unlink, or Disconnect Discord in the app, disconnects the server: the bot says goodbye and leaves.

Channels and the default channel

The bot lists every text, announcement and forum channel it can post in. Under Default channel, choose where events go when the host picks no channel. If you change it later, an event already posted stays where it is; only new events are posted in the new default channel. Use Block for events for channels that should never get events. If the bot loses a permission in a channel, the channel stays in the list with its settings (as the default too) and a warning; nothing is posted there until the permission is back.

When hosts create an event for the group, they pick its Discord channels next to its Telegram topics. In a text or announcement channel the event is a message; in a forum it is a post with the event title. Both update as people join, and a cancelled event is marked as cancelled, its forum post closed.

Scheduled events

Every event posted to the server also appears in Discord's Events list, with a link back to Party Up. Discord starts and ends it at the event's times; an event with a voice channel works differently (see Voice channels). Pressing Interested there does not save a spot: the post's buttons do.

Voice channels

The bot also lists the voice and stage channels it can see. For an Online event, a host can pick one under Discord voice channel. The event in Discord's Events list then sits in that voice channel: Party Up starts it at the start time, and Discord ends it a few minutes after everyone leaves. A stage channel gets a regular event with a link to the channel instead.

To put the event in the voice channel, the bot needs Connect on it as well as View Channel; without Connect the event links to the channel instead. If the bot joined your server before it asked for Connect, give it Connect on the channel, or add it again with Add the bot to a server.

Joining from Discord

Press Join on a post, or an option. Only you see the answer. The first time, Party Up asks you to link your Discord account: press Continue with Discord, sign in, and you come back to the event. If you haven't accepted the Terms yet, the answer shows Continue with Discord too: accept them and you're back on the event. The same rules as in the app apply, like the Terms, age or gender limits and invite-only groups.

Tip

Removing someone from the group in Party Up doesn't remove them from the Discord server. Remove them there too.

Discord messages

With Discord linked, Party Up can send your alerts as Discord messages when push notifications and Telegram can't reach you. Switch it under Discord messages in your notification settings. Discord only delivers them if you share a server with the Party Up bot.
